introduction and history

Google is a dominant search engine that was developed in the 90's and it really succeeded and took over in a record breaking time and is used by every internet users. It started off as a research project in '96 by Stanford University by Page & Brin thinking that a search engine that could figure out relations between websites would give better search outcomes than other sites, their new creation was called backrub because it checked back links to determine sites importance rated from 1to 10, after testing and other more procedures they'd name their new website google.standford.edu, in '98 they switched the name to Google.com which is a play on the world Googol(The number one followed by one-hundred zeros). And this is because of the almost infinite websites Google has in its search almost 800 trillion. Today, Google is a publicly traded company that manages the most used search engines in the world, with a stock price that’s highest in its class. The company currently hold around 8000 workers and its located in Mountain View, California. And it also has other headquarter located in different places around the states(Seattle, Washington). Eric Schmidt, Ex-CEO of Novell, is the new Google CEO. Almost 60% of the search engine market is taken over by Google and is still projected to increase.


History

Google started off in March of '96 as a research project by Page & Brin who we're both pHD students at Stanford, before both partners joined forces Page considered exploring the mathematical features of the world wide web, he concentrated on which site has the most important information according to back links, his Web crawler started figuring out the web in march '96, setting out on Page's Stanford home as its starting point. Page & Brin developed page rank algorithm which determines sites importance according to information in web pages, its occurred to them that a search engine that is dependent on back link information would give out better search results. The name Google.com was registered in 1997, and their company was incorporated in 1998, Google possessed an index of over 60million pages. Google's search results were a lot more efficient than other competing websites such as Hotbot or Excite.com and it was praised for being a lot more technologically creative.
